Chicken Shawerma

Hi again

Shawerma is one of the most popular and famous dishes in Palestine. It is easy to make and so delicious. Today we are going to learn together how to prepare shawerma at home.

Ingredients:

1000 gm. Skinless chicken breasts

1 dl yogurt

2 teaspoon  vinegar

2 cloves garlic, crushed

1 teaspoon pepper

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon cardamom

1 teaspoon allspice

1 teaspoon shawerma spice .... (if you have not shawerma spice it will be ok without it, other spices will make it also fantastic and delicious)

1/2 teaspoon curry

1/2 teaspoon sumac

juice from 1 lemon

1 tablespoon olive oil

For filling:
(you can decide what to fill with depending on what you like, but here are suggestions for filling)

thinly slice cucumbers

thinly sliced onions

1/2 teaspoon sumac

thinly sliced tomatoes

1/2 cup fresh parsley, finely chopped

Sliced lettuce

pickle slices (optional)

tahini sauce

shawerma bread

(if you do not have it or you cannot prepare it by yourself you can buy pita or Lebanese bread ,,,but I think it is so simple to prepare shawerma bread home and it is more delicious)

Preparation:

Cut the chicken breast in to thin pieces.
Combine all ingredients and spices together

Add the chicken, cover it and then keep it in the refrigerator for whole night or at least 6 hours.
Bring a large pan and cook the chicken over medium heat until it done.

Be sure not to let the chicken dry. This is how it should look like after cooking.

Before or while cooking you should prepare tahini sauce and other  filling.
About filling, you can add the sliced onion to the filling without cooking, but I prefer to fry it with a little sumac and spices for just two minutes not more… I think it is more delicious like that.

Now to the last step…the filling
You can add what you like.. but you should be careful not to fill the sandwitch a lot so you can hold it easily and do not add too much tahini sauce.

I used in filling cucumber, onion, lettuce and tahini sauce. Roll the bread around and cover it.

Severing:

Serve it warm with fries, hummus or salad…ymmmmm J

Wait for more delicious Arabic food.

See you
